the AWT shafts are made to suit the ping g10 heads and you will find the longer shafts are in-fact lighter than the shorter shafts. what this means is you can swing the long irons a little faster as they are lighter and you should get more swing speed but with the shorter irong you will swing just a shade slower and the should be more consistant.
the top ping pros are using AWT shafts so the must work or the would go to the standerd shaft.
if you look on the PING site it will tell you a bit more about the AWT shafts. they have only been out for about 14 months and i think Ping are the onle using them so far.
Maybe Lowpost or Ted may be able to tell you more as they know much more than me about clubfitting but i dont think they are available to club makers but i could be wrong.

Hi rockin,

The regular flex should suit you. Here is a simple chart which shows fitting of flex by distance clubs are hit. This is consistent with fitting guidelines and is a widely accepted rule of thumb. You are right in the range.

I did understand that the AWT regular tends to be a bit softer than other regulars. However, in borderline cases the recommendation is to be on he lighter side of flex, i.e. versus stiff.

You'll be fine with the R flex.

I understand the AWT to be softer tipped than, say, Dynamic Golds - so they launch higher. The AWT idea is something plenty of custom clubmakers already do - it helps to reduce the amount of weight needed to heft match a set, and most long iron/hybrid clubs can use a softer tip to help the launch conditions.

Thanks everybody.
I really appreciate your advice. That makes me feel better about the regular AWT shafts.
I've played Eye 2's with Karsten KT shafts for 20 years. Yep, I said TWENTY years.
Don't play as much (I'm trying to change that) or hit it as far as I use to so I figured I would try the Ping G10's to help me hit it a little more consistent.
I'm sure I'll be posting more questions in the near future.

Hi Chuck,

It may be a good time to make the change. You're not getting younger. I'm 70, so I'm not throwing rocks.

Most people are not aware that Karsten had a bias about the people using his original clubs. With his success and growing stature of his clubs, he considered they were the creme, and should be playable by serious golfers. The stock shafts for the Eye 2's were on the stiff side. So, although they were very expensive and the creme, the irony was that they were the must haves for people, who perhaps would have benefited more by using clubs with regular or senior shafts. I'm thinking of some portly, unathletic, perhaps older CEO, or some other types, who had them only because they were elitests, as an example. After all, a lot of great pro golfers used them.

I'm not knocking this position, because I owned a full set of Eye 2's, as well as the Ping Karsten and Zing 2's over time, and I was not a CEO or an elitest.

I knew , as Bob Dylan wrote,
"The Times They are a Changin'", when I was playing with a young man who is just learning the game, of about 26 years of age) and I hit my driver about as well as I could hit it, and he hit his 3 wood about 10 yards further.
He didn't beat in the total score that day but I knew I needed to rethink my equipment to the modern standards.

Sorry to eaves drop on your conversation but I'm new here and decidedly interested in the overall avialbality of the AWT shafts and their possible application to my MZ-MP-57's OR would the Project X H/F 6.0 a better match?
Won't bore you my stupidity but the S-300's that came in the MP 57's were decidedly too stiff with that high Kick-point. Tried a number of sticks the last couple of weeks with AWT's (R) and Project X H/F(6.0) and they suit me
considerably better...Kind of embarassing but that's what happens when emotion/ego takes over a purchasing decision. So there you have it warts and all...Tks.,-j

Took them out and hit them on turf. Added my customary 1/2 inch and tried them again...Ugh!
Did a little research and inserted D/G R shaft. Better but still not wowing me....Ok, they come as advertized by the MZ cult when hit on the button and the feedback is superb but the off-center strikes are scary unforgiving 4-6....I've grown frustrated and practicing in the Florida 100+ heat index gets old real quick with so-so results.
BTW this isn't my first rodeo with forged clubs either. Played MacGregor cavity backs for years with Cleveland wedges. I hit the Ping I-10's this past week with the AWT shaft (R) which is new to me and was really intrigued by the whole experience. +10Y longer with the middle clubs and even the PW was a keeper. Very accurate! To make a short story long I was wondering if the AWT's were available to be test-run in the MP 57's or am I limited to something like the Project X (flighted). The non-flighteds were nasty stiff at 5.0 ?bringing in a frequency of 303 or 5.9...but the thing unloaded funny like the S300's.
Sorry to bother you with my tale of woe here. I'm just looking for options b/4 chucking the 57's and buying the I-10's....

Good stuff.

You say the shafts unloaded funny - can you elaborate on that?

My guess at this point is that you want something butt soft and mid-stiff.

The PX 6.0 will have a firmer bending feel than the S300's and launch lower - they may be worth a try.

By "unloaded funny" I'm more or less refering to the fact that that the club felt like you were swinging a telephone pole with little if any "give." That's for my swing today..Have to admit my 6.5-6.8 days are long past and while my Driver is still a 6.3 I like a softer feel in my irons. I have been away from the game for a bit due to injuries but find much of the description of these new products etc. to me at least seems somewhat misleading and/or confusing. There simply is no substitute for hitting 'em off the turf and wathcing ball-flight. That 6.0 Flighted PX is an all together different anima than the 5.0 non-flighted PX. They are absoutely worlds apart. From what I can gather it's the higher kick-point v.s. the mid K/P that you have pointed out in your text. I'm throwing the Nippon 990 into the mix here tomorrow at the suggestion of a friend out west and then it's E-Bay for 57's I suspect. Anyone? Thanks again for your input and no doubt our paths will cross again.
