Is there a general "rule-of-thumb" for determining the length of the club shaft?

    Re: Shaft Length

I am not an expert by any means in this subject, but generally...

I am 6'2" and use 1/4 inch longer shafts. Someone 5'10 would use standard. So, its about every 4 inches in hight = 1/4 inch in shaft length.

This can all change based on your arm length, because those are not always uniform.

A thing about lengthing shafts: The longer they are the weaker they are. So if you go to a longer shaft, worry a little about the stiffness...same goes for shorter lengths being stiffer.

There are different ways to lengthen a shaft: Buy them the right length and replace the heads or put a wooden dowel in the end of the grip. Worry about the flex point with the dowel trick. It can usually be done ok to SW, PW's, but the longer the club the more that will have an affect to the flex point and overall flex.

Making the shaft shorter can be done by cutting it at the end or the tip near the face. The handle shortning will keep the flex generally the same. Doing it to the tip will make the flex stiffer.

    Hope this helps.

      Re: Shaft Length

I guess not being familiar with the specs of equipment, I need to know, or have a refrence point to start from. What is the "standard" length, and what club do we start from.
