  • Driver Shaft compared to Fariway Shafts

I have a Ping G10 Hybrid and 3 wood, both with the Proforce V2 Regular shafts, and I absolutely love them.

I'm looking to get a G10 driver with the same shaft but I'm unsure if I should go for a Reg or Stiff shaft.

Historically should the driver shaft be stiffer or the same as my fairway woods?

(My current driver is a Ping TISI stiff shaft which is around 10 years old, I'm told that the old stiff shafts would equate to todays regular but I'm not sure if this is just here-say)

    Thanks in advance.

    Go with the regular.

There's been much learned since 'back in the day'.

Folks used to think that the driver should be stiffer as the butt generally cycled weaker, but we now know this to be a fact based on club building and shaft profiling; not meaning anything to the golfer as an end result.

That said, the driver doesn't necessarily need to match any other club in the bag. Like your putter, it's a specialty club hit with a different stroke and has a different job than your other clubs. The driver is about maximum distance (or for some, they carry a driver that's about maximum accuracy). You need to know what you want out of your driver, and then get it built accordingly. Most folks take the most distance they can control with a driver. There are a few, however, that are happy with a fairway finder that doesn't necessarily go any further than their 3 wood.
