  • Ball Recommendation

What ball would you recommend for my 80mph swing speed? Currently playing Titleist DT Solo but it's discontinued. Looking for distance/control and low spin since I'm usually short of the pin anyway. Thank you! The Solo felt a bit hard to me.

The Srixon Soft Feel is the best ball that I have ever used. I have a swing speed similar to you. Don't be put off by the name. This ball goes miles. Plus it is very nice around the greens.

Thank you! I will give it a try. Today there are so many lower compression balls out there that it's confusing. And I find that the SoLo feels kinda hard.

Yes, they are good balls. I also like the Srixon AD333.

Yep, me too. If I have not got one sort in my bag, then I have the other.

A final question. I noticed that Srixon Soft Feel also comes in a ladies ball. I have heard good things about this from men. What's the difference?

This is not 100% true (I still have friends who work for Titleist in my home town). They were discontinued a couple of years ago but are back in production. The new DTSolo is replacing the two DT Carry & DT Roll. My other favorite ball for a swing speed under 85mph is the Noodle Easy Distance.

detrader...so if you had to choose, would you pick the new DT solo, Srixon Soft Feel, or Noodle Easy Distance. I still think the old SoLo is a bit rock-like.

                  Re: Ball Recommendation

I like all three but if your swing speed on average is 80 (mine is 82) the Noodle is the best overall ball for that swing speed. I am saying this and I get all my Titleist balls for free but I still play the Noodle and I have to pay for it. But honestly all 3 are great balls the only thing I would look at for you is how they play on and around the green for your style of play.

detrader...do you know if there is any difference between men's/ladies Srixon soft feel? I have heard good things about the ladies ball from men.

The Soft Feel is a great ball. I am a man so have never tried the ladies ball. If anyone recommeds it, I will give it a fair try and report back.

                        Re: Ball Recommendation

Just for the record, most ladies balls are the same as the equivalent mens ball with softer cores. This is the usual practice. There are some exceptions like the Pinnacle ribbon which has a slightly firmer core than the new 2010 Titleist DTSolo and about the same core firmness as the new Pinnacle Dimension. The Nike PD Soft (a mens ball) is about as soft as the Noodle Easy Distance and the only ball I know of that is slightly softer than that is the newest Precept Ladies IQPlus. I have played ladies balls and still do if I am out of my favorite ball and unless you have some psychological problem using a ladies ball they are perfect for those with slow swing speeds so I say go for it. You cal also spend $20 at golf galaxy for a ball fitting and see what it recommends for both mens and womens balls.

I just learned of the Nike PD Soft this weekend. My son uses it for his varsity golf matches. We played a round Sunday and he was crushing it. Thanks for the information!
