  • Change of Driver

I have finally began to hit the tee short with confidence and with solid good wood, so to speak. I am using a Callaway FT 5, 10.5 degree with a stiff shaft. My drives travel from 240 –260 tops, more like 250. Will a change in equipment, to a Taylormade R9, 11.5 degree and stiff shaft 60 grams, liable to produce any additional distance?

    Re: Change of Driver

It might, and it might not.

You can't generalize, in particular not with drivers.

You can't even be sure, that a 11.5deg driver from Brand A will hit it higher than a 10.5deg driver from brand B. Not even with the same shaft.

Get to a fitting center - or your local pro shop - preferably without any bias.
Let them put you in front of a Trackman or similar device, and hit multiple shots with multiple heads and shafts, until you find a combination that is consistently better, longer, less dispersion etc.
Buy that driver, no matter what brand, model, loft, shaft and flex it is.

Then go out and shoot low!

        Re: Change of Driver

        hi
in recent driving tests using a robot it found only a few yards diffrence between the top 10 brand drivers, but also they offered diffrent ball flights.
if you are only looking for more distance then i don't think you'll get more than a couple of yards, best to go and try as many drivers as you can at your local pros.
        Cheers
        Bill
