This isn't the place for personal attacks. I'm not sure why you are taking this so personally (unless you yourself designed the X16s). We are simply stating our personal experiences. Take the comments for what they are worth - our personal opinions.

Firstly I appoligise if you have taken my comments personally, this is not what I intended.

If we were all sitting having a beer in the club house I would simply assume you were winding me up about my new clubs, as I stated I have never heard of any club that hits a ball different distances each time you hit it, without some outside interferance.

I will gladly agree to disagree.

I did not take the comments personally, but I felt this could get out of hand and I believe this is not the right place for them.


It was never my intent to wind you up about your new clubs. If it came off like that, I apologize. I found it strange as well regarding the distance, since my current clubs are always within 8 feet.

If this teaches anybody anything, I hope that everyone will test the clubs they are going to buy (regardless of manufaturer) before they shell out their hard earned cash for golf equipment.

Two against one Ian, Gord is in Canada, I am in Scotland so we can hardly be collaberating.

Callaway clubs are fine and maybe one day they will make a set that I really like and can play with, I can say the same thing for Taylor made, MacGregor, Cleveland and Lynx all clubs I have tried but failed to find the right set with.

You seem very paranoid about anyone attacking your choice of irons, perhaps a little bit of guilt at succumbing to 'Game Improvement' clubs? Opinins are like backsides....everyones got one. not quite sure why you seem so uppity that mines and Gords differs from yours.

And you do mean your comments personally otherwise you would not have put a red mark against my reputation.

Best of luck with the irons, I'm pleased you have found a set that you feel confident with that are improving your game.

Everyone has their holy grail club of choice. I hit everything on the market and fell for the Hogan Apex Edge 2001 model, nice looking irons. Almost too pretty to hit, IMO. They may not fit some but they fit my swing.

I hit 20 models on a launch monitor over 5 days, 4 irons and 8 irons from every set. I can tell you there were differences from manufacturer to manufacturer but also 2 of the same kinds of clubs hit different. Best 2 balls out of 5 averaged with each club and feel and club feedback were real important.

Sometimes it's the manufacturing process, the design, the metal mix. A thousand things caan be different. Tour players get the Callaway stuff after guys like Mike Dunaway hit it. And believe me when I tell you, the people you put on that list are not hitting the same club you are. All those clubs are special grinds, lofts lies, materials. They don't resemble your clubs, none of the tour players play off the shelf clubs. All their clubs are prototypes of the model you have, the consumer version.

I hate to see you guys get in a huff over apples and oranges. Now everyone have a cold beverage!

Everyone has their own opinion, that's a good thing I think, otherwise forums would be a lot less interesting!

However, I have noticed that the "Was I Helpfull" feature has been abused. This feature is for constructive responses only. If this feature continues to be abbused I will remove it.

On a lighter note I am glad to see we still have our opinions, just be mindful of other's feelings and personal beliefs.

PS: If anyones interested I like my Titleist irons

Hang on Guys,

I still haven't seen one reply on this subject that simply states that the same club, i.e. A Callaway 7 iron for instance will not hit true distances each time with a mechanical swing which is what both guys are trying to state.

Therefore I am not hung up on my clubs, I am very happy with my choice of iron game improvement or not, it is about your score not how smart your kit looks or if people think you are good because you carry blades.

I have never in all my time on this site ever insulted or given poor advice to any user, however I do feel Gandalf is aiming his comments directly towards me.

I simply put on the feedback that these pair are taking the mickey.

I simply stated my own personal experience. Since you weren't there how can you tell me I am not telling the truth? I have no contract with another club manufacturer so I have no personal interest in converting readers to another brand.

If it would have been any other set of clubs would you have put up the same argument? I don't think so. It is simply a difference of opinion. Who knows why I had these problems - maybe it was a set that didn't get tested, maybe the shaft flex wasn't right?

I am happy you have found a set of clubs that work for you. Whether they are blades or cavity backs, I could care less. Cleveland, Titleist, Taylor Made, Callaway, Mizuno - it doesn't matter. It comes down to what each individual is comfortable with and that you can trust your club. If you don't trust your club or don't like the feel of the club - even the look of the club is enough to turn people off a certain brand/model - you will not be successful with the club because you will be doubting it in your mind. If you trust the club, you will be much more successful and hopfully your new clubs will bring you success on the course.
