    Mixing two sets of clubs to get some that suit me.

    Hi, Just wanted to sound you guys out about an idea I've had knocking around. Now bear in mind, money is VERY tight, and I cant afford new/ good 2nd hand clubs (not unless they are rediculously cheap).

    I have two sets of clubs, my old Intech iron (with a iron shafts). And a set of MacGregors that I got from a friend. Now the Intech set was a cheap set to start me off, and I've always thought that the heads were somehow inferior, but I like the heavier feel of the iron shafts.

    Now my MacGregors are newer, with graphite shafts. Obviously nicer balanced heads, but I feel I cant hit them consistantly as well as my intechs. I've given myself at least 12 hours at the driving range and probably about 10 rounds to try and get used to them....but I just cant!

    My question is this. Would it be possible or for that mater advisable, to have my MacGregor heads fitted to iron shafts (be it the old Intechs or new ones)? Would it be better to just sell both sets and try again?

    I'm not a clubfitter, but I suspect that it will be a bad solution to pull the shafts and fit them to the MacGregors. I think the swingwieghts will screw up, and if not for anything else, then from an economical point of view, I think, that getting a clubfitter to pull and reshaft is more expensive than getting a 2nd hand set of a decent quality. It takes time, and the cost of labour is higher than the price of a good 2nd hand kit. A quick search on Google reveals reshafting sevice prices of $15 to $20 PER iron, and those prices are based on you buying the new shafts at the same time. If you bring in 2 sets of irons, and need shafts pulled from both, in order to replace one set with the other ... I can only imagine what they will charge you, if they don't insist you buy new shafts (which might actually be cheaper than having the steel shafts pulled.

    Have you tried looking at globalgolf.com?

    You can get a nice set of Ben Hogans for $80

    My suggestion will be to sell your current sets and get whatever they can bring, and then shop at globalgolf or a similar place. You will get a set that matches in swingweights etc, and have a fair chance of finding a set with a flex that matches you better.
