  • Callaway site lists a 'uniflex" steel shaft;

    what is a uniflex shaft? Is it similar to a regular flex? What swing speed would it be best suited for?

    I play Ping clubs but I'm thinking about getting a set of Callaway's also so I need to make sure I'm getting the correct shafts.

    Thought this might be helpful:

    Reader question: What is a Uniflex shaft?

    Answer: Both Nike and Callaway have new irons featuring a steel shaft that says Uniflex. The irons are the Nike NDS and Callaway Fusion, and the Uniflex steel shaft comes from True Temper.

    The two shafts are different and are based on proprietary designs, says True Temper’s Chad Hall. However, the definition of Uniflex is the same in both cases.

    “Uniflex means somewhere between Regular and Stiff, if you will,” says Hall. “These shafts are meant to appeal to the broadest range of golfers.”

    It is important to note that both these irons are available in a wide range of graphite and steel shafts. The Uniflex is simply the stock steel shaft.

    In both cases, the Uniflex design is a good one. My experience tells me the Uniflex shaft feels soft like an R but seems to possess the stability of an S. Let’s call it a mid-R.

    For those of us who became fans of the proprietary True Temper Memphis 10 shaft that has been produced for several years for Callaway, the new Uniflex is very similar. This is a excellent choice for many golfers who want to play steel in their irons.

    By the way, these Callaway Fusion irons are sensational. Callaway initially gained a foothold in the golf market with Big Bertha and other metalwoods, but a transition has occurred over the past 13 years. Now its most interesting products just might be irons, as exemplified by this forgiving Fusion model. As always, it is important to try different clubhead and shaft combinations before making any purchase.
    Although, Callaway's stock steel shaft on the fusions are from Nippon.. but whatever. They play like regular shafts.

          I'm thinking about X-16's, I might even consider a set of X-14's if I can find a set at a good price.

            It looks like Golfsmith is still selling the X-14's for $499 if you haven't seen this.

              $499 is a great deal; they seem to be offering a $50 gift card with the purchase of this set also.
