  • New driver (sort of)

I just got a Mizuno Blue Rage 9 degree driver. It is 350cc's and it is wonderful. I went to the range today and hit it pretty solid. I purchased it off ebay for only 37 dollars. I feel like I stole something. I have to ask myself the question how big can drivers really get. I mean I think my clubhead is huge. I can't even imagine trying to swing a 460cc driver. I guess whatever makes you feel comfortable. I am happy to have spent money on this driver it will be the bag for a long time. I must say bye to my Wilson Deep Red 305cc Driver. What a time I had with it.

I went from a Titleist 976R (smallest of the last generation of Titleists) all the way to a MP-001 400CC. It was a bit of a culture shock to say the least. If you manage to find a classic style head (rather than one of the gimmicky ones that looks like a prop from Star Trek) you dont tend to notice the larger size, get a black or dark grey coloured head an you notice it less as well.

Enjoy the Blue Rage, the fairway woods were great.

I recently bought a Titleist 983K, which has a head size of 365cc, and it works wonderfully for me. I tried a Ping G2 which is 460cc and wasn't comfortable with it at all, I always got the feeling I was going to plough a furrow through the tee box. For me the Titleist is about the largest head size I would choose.

I love my Taylor Made 320, I wouldn't want to go too much larger than that. One of the guys I play with has a gigantic driver (don't know the cc on it) but most of the guys kid him by calling it a milk carton on a stick.

You would have to pry my Callaway Hawkeye driver from my cold, dead hands....

I took my r510 up to golfsmith to get a new grip put on it over the winter, and I ended up getting a free upgrade to a brand new r5 because my 510 had a dent in the face, and it was sent in as defective, and they even sent me one with a 757 speeder in it. the r5 is 450 cc I think, and i thought i would hate it, but i've never hit anything like this in my life, i added about 10 yards in driving distance and i'm hitting about two thirds of the fairways i see, as opposed to half at best with my 510 and other drivers. it is so forgiving on off-center hits and goes for days if you hit the sweet spot. i had a 5 iron in, about 205 yards, on a 550 yard level ground par 5 the other day.

I have see a 780cc driver, It looks like a teepot on the end of the shaft. I use a 365cc wilson deep red with a fatshaft. And I beleive the head is to big for me, I think anything around 300cc would be just right.
