    Scotty Cameron Putters

    Does anyone know where I might look for information about the fundamental differences between similar style Cameron putters (ie Mid Sur, Newport, Studio design)

    I just picked up a Mid Sur that I plan to either cut down or reshaft (I figured a SC head would work quite nicely with a standard shaft), and just wanted to know if a certain type of scotty is better than the other (as I've seen newports going for $200+ on ebay).

    www.scottycameron.com has some good info about the differences. If you are planning on cutting down the sur to 35" i would seriously reconsider, because long putters are specifically weighted for that length and cutting the shaft down would change the feel. As far as the differences go between the models, it is mostly just head shape, and hosel shape.

      The main problem cutting down a longer putter is that the angle the shaft enters the hosel at is different than for a standard length putter so you would find yourself standing more upright at the ball. The putter will be a bit heavier as kguldi has said, if you dont like that you can always drill some metal out of the heel and toe bulges to reduce weight. Better yet, get the standard putter because if you butcher the mid and dont like it it's pretty expensive to replace a mid shaft and you might have a putter you cant use or sell.

      My Dad cut down a ping B90 broomhandle a while back and he doesnt really use it so its kinda just sitting there waiting for when he takes the fancy to it again. But of course B90's are now selling for good money again since the fad of long putters had a resurgence now that Monty and Vijay have been using them. He isnt too pleased he cant sell it now.....

        Hi! i think scotty putters are great, but realy if you wanted a shorter shaft you cuold have got 1 from the start, and it will affect the weight, but you can look around on the net for more info?

          Thanks for the replies.

          After doing some work on the Scotty Cameron site, I'm not sure that cutting the shaft is a good idea - I'd be better to pull it (then put it back if I sell it).

          I don't think the weight issue will be a problem (I prefer a slightly heavier putter), and standing more upright is just fine with me, I find it much easier to pendulum standing up.
