  • Lob wedge - again

Just to follow up on an earlier thread about lob wedges.

I borrowed a Cleveland Tour Action 588 60deg wedge for a round over the weekend. I ended up using it for almost everything from 100 yards in. I overhit the first two shots (an 80 yard approach and the 10 yard chip from off the back of the green) but once I dialied it in it was superb.

I got up and down from the two greenside bunkers I ended up in (100% sand saves!) and chipped the ball to 2" on a couple of holes. 50 yard pitches to greens were easy, the distance control just felt instinctive.

What impressed me most was the versatility of the club. Even with 60 deg loft I could close the clubface and hit a low pitch that would bite on the 2nd bounce and release nicely towards the hole. Laying the face open for a testy downhill chip meant the ball almost stopped on the downslope before rolling gently towards the hole.

Now I just need to get out there and buy my own.
