  • Shaft Length

I'm using a set of Callaway X-14 Steelheads. I find that the irons are a bit too long for me. I'm 5'8" but with longer arms than average. Is there a site that I can go to to determine correct club length for my height or must I see a clubmaker?

    I start here

    http://prolinecustomgolf.com/golf_cl...ting_chart.htm

But a custom man will be invaluable. There is no qualified definition of 'standard' - a standard 5 iron is about 37.5", but can fluctuate up to 3/4" either way.

That site was very helpful but it's too bad they don't measure your upper torso and lower body ratio as I think where your body bends forward also affects how far your arms would hang.

It's a good starting point, yes, but your concerns/points are quite valid - hence the need for a dynamic fitting.

I agree. If you are lookig for the best fitting, see your local club making professional. Measurements of hand to floor give you a great starting point, but may not work for everyone. While at the fitter, if you are a bit on the shorter side, get them to adjust the lie a degree or two flat. This will help you to keep the heel of the club taking the divot and it will allow the shaft to be slightly longer so you don't lose too much distance.
