    Which One Should I Buy?

    I have a set of 13 graphite shafted clubs, i have a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood 3-9 irons, a sand wedge a pitch wedge and a putter and i am wondering what to chose as my next club. should i chose a 60-64' wedge, a 16',19',22'or 25' utility club or a 7 wood please help me choose my decision wisely!! thnkyoou

    It would depend on your skill level and you distance you are striking your clubs. It would also depend on whether you hit your long irons well or not. If you strike your long irons well, what are you going to do with the 7 wood you can't do with your irons.

      If you are a higher handicapper and you dont hit your long irons well, go with a utility club.

        Thnx ive only just started playing but have just joined a club i can hit around 170 yards with my 3 iron straight as i can use it well, im 13 and aiming for a 10 handicap.

          Conventional wisdom states that if you can handle your long irons, don't bother with hybrids. (Never mind that Tiger is about to put one in his bag).

          Hybrids are wonderful clubs. Great from all sorts of lies, usually more forgiving than a long iron, and launch the ball higher.

          That said, I would add a 60* wedge. The more full swing options you have in your scoring range, the better.

          In fact, I'd drop the 3 iron and add a 64* wedge as well. Then a pair 22 and 26 degree hybrids - leaving no iron longer than a 6.

          So you bag would look like this:

          Driver, 3W, 5W, 4H, 5H, 6-9i, PW, SW, LW, XW, Putter

            4 wedges would be wasted on a beginner. I would go with the 7 wood to start with. Its basically a 3 iron, maybe a bit longer, but can be used from the rough and off the tee. I added one to the bag for this season, ditching the 2 iron, and it had added another shot to the game. Its a great club from 3 iron distance from tight lies and the tough rough.

            Titleist 975F are great woods as are the Mizuno MP-001. Ping I3 woods are really good as well, if a little unconventional looking.

              I would go with a ping wood also. When u say 10 for handicap, is that what you are at now?

                wedges are the way to better scoring, you will use a lob wedge way more than a long iron, and they are awesome out of greenside bunkers. I suggest a lob. as you get older you will hit longer and the need for longer irons will be cut right back.

                    I disagree Mr Change, in certain cirumstances......

                    I have never, ever, seen a player who scored better with a lob wedge in his bag. A decent 56 or 58 degree sand wedge can do exactly the same job. I know this might be because I play in a links environment and the lob isnt a much called on shot where I play, but I did a bit of a survey recently of all the guys in my saturday morning group (24 players, all 5 handicap or better).

                    I counted about a dozen 7-wood/hybrid style clubs and 1, yes 1, lob wedge and even that was on old school Ping Eye II+ BeCu. The most interesting aspect of it was that, almost to a man, we had all tried lob wedges and found they werent a lot of help.

                    If you play a lot of heavy log grassed courses Jack, maybe a lob wedge is something you should consider. If not then I think you would be wasting space with it and should go for a Hybrid or a Utility wood.
