My 3 wood has always been the worst club in my bag, by a good margin. I hit my friend's Snake Eyes Quick Strike, 18 degrees, I think, the other day, and I really liked it. What are some of the better hybrids for a reasonable price? I hit the TM Rescue Mid at Golfsmith the other day and liked it, but can't afford it. Is the Quick Strike the best hybrid for your money?

Re: Hybrid
Go try some out. Most golf stores will let you hit a club before you buy it. Remember to identify the gap in distance that you are trying to fill so when testring you know which club will fit in best with the rest of your bag.

Re: Hybrid
I am thinking about getting a hybrid club but when are they good? I am thinking for those inbetween second shots where I don't know what to hit.
When do you use a hybrid club? What kind of distances do you get with these clubs?

Re: Hybrid
Hybrids are designed to replace longer irons with easier to hit clubs. They provide the distance of shorter woods with the accuracy of irons. Typically you get them to replace your 2-5 irons, but many people just have a 3-4 hybrid. They are also useful for bump and run shots on bigger greens.

Re: Hybrid
also look into a 7 wood...I just bought the new callaway ERC and it is very nice...next to my 60 and 52 degree it is my favorite club to hit

Re: Hybrid
My Maruman Proliner G1 comes with a "M4", and does not have a 3-iron nor 4-iron. It's still shrink wrapped though - I'm still struggling with my 7-iron :P
But I wonder if I would be in some way left out if I don't have a long iron? So wonder if in the end I might have to go out and get a 3-iron?

PCS Class 'A' Clubfitter
A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: Hybrid
@ Nanabush: Yes, hybrids are designed to get the ball up faster than your conventional iron (ie provide a higher ball flight). But they're shorter shafted than the corresponding iron, and heavier-headed, too. This equates to increased accuracy without giving up too much distance. The other bonus is that carry is increased while roll is decreased. (In other words, it's tough to get a bad bounce on one or two hops and a stop).
@ SimonWoo: Don't bother with a proper 3 iron - get a 3 hybrid.
@Patriot07: The SnakeEyes QS hybrids are wonderful. I like the Innovex hybrids as well.
As Gord has already stated, go hit some, then buy what you like. The 2 important factors are 1) you like to swing the club, and 2) it replaces a yardage gap in your current set (ie don't arbitrarily replace a 3H for your 3i, you may find you hit your 3H and your 4i the same distance).

Re: Hybrid
I know the regulars here are probably sick of me talking about my Ashton clubs, but Ashton has come out with a hybrid now. What makes their hybrid different from every other hybrid on the market is that the lie and loft are adjustable.... http://www.ashtongolf.com/Products/x-brid.html
