  • new fairway woods

i recently bought a set of Cleveland TA-6s and i love em. the only problem that i ran into though is buying new fairway woods and new wedges... my old set being 15 years old, i feel it's time to upgrade as it were.as far as wedges go, i'm sticking with Cleveland, either the CG11 or the Gun Metal, 56*. but i've heard so many different opinions on fairway woods that it's confusing the heck outta me. can someone please give me some advice?

    Re: new fairway woods

I think that you need to consider two things, William.

The first is the lie of the fairway metals at which you are looking.

Unlike as with irons, you're pretty much stuck with the lie angles offered on metals.

For myself, some of the designs that looked best to me were in fact too upright In order to play them, I would have to sacrifice too much shaft length.

First find metals that set up for you.

The next thing is trajectory. Do you need help getting the ball in the air or do you have trouble keeping the ball down with metals? If you want help lifting the ball, The Sonartec SS-01s (you can still get them if you look) are very food. If you worry about hitting metals too high and want a more boring trajectory, the Ping and Titleist metals are good. The new Cleveland Steel Launchers are somewhere in the middle and a good fit for most.
