  • Adjusting the lie of new clubs

I upgraded my 11 year old big bertha irons to the new calaway fusions about 2 months ago as i have begun playing golf more often.

I currently hit mid 90's and am a bit eratic at the best of times.

    My questions are;

    1. is it possible to adjust the lie of clubs bought off the rack like my fusions.

    2. should i do this now or wait until i have a more consistant swing.

    3. i'm not that tall (5.7)so would off the rack clubs need to be adjusted because of my height.

    thanks for your help

Re: Adjusting the lie of new clubs

    Hi There,

Unfortuatley due to the design of Callaway (through bore shafts, you will notice that the shaft goes right through the head) they can only be ajusted during build.

At 5ft 7in you may need them to be a touch shorter and probably a couple of degrees flat. Dont take my work for this please get a correct fitting.

You will play better with correct fitting clubs.

    Hope this helps

      1. Yes you can have any iron adjusted.

      2. If you have been golfing for a while, you should be fine to be adjusted now

      3. If you are 5'7", you may have to have your irons adjusted a couple degrees flat. Make sure you have your swing analyzed and who ever is adjusting your club has you swing on a lie board. Standard adjustments based on height and arm measurements do not work for everyone.

Re: Adjusting the lie of new clubs

I am 5'8" and play clubs that are 1/2" short and 2 degrees flat.

        Get yourself custom fitted.
Don't rely on "off the shelf" specs.

At your stage in golf a custom fit will take loads of shots off your game.

          Thanks for your input guys.

I will speak to the pro who works at the store where i bought the clubs to see what he recommends.

Will changing the lie hurt the distance?

just a side note i am actually amazed at the extra distance the new clubs have given me on my short irons. For 9-SW its about 20 yards, my 8 15 yards and my 7 10 yards. Unfortunately they are a bit harder to control and 1 day i'm pushinh them right the next i'm pushing them left.

          thanks

Re: Adjusting the lie of new clubs

If your lie is set for your swing, your distance and accuracy should improve, due to more consistent sweet spot contact.
