Who's familiar with Maruman irons?

    Who's familiar with Maruman irons?

    I am currently using Maruman Proliner G1 irons. Just tried my friend's Maruman Verity irons (10 years old!) and it felt much better. Felt as if the weight was more equally distributed along the whole club and that I was better able to swing the club fast. I am not sure how you compare the difference between these 2 models of irons. All I can see is that mine (Proliner G1) has a deep cavity, while the Verity has an extra piece of iron to fill up part of the cavity area.

    Anyone can share some information on this? Thanks!

    I am no expert .. however you have to check if both the swing weight of both sets are the same ... if they are not the same .. it explains the reason of you able to swing faster with your friend's irons... For me I used to be using a set of irons that is weighted at D7 swing weight .. after I had changed my irons to a D1 swing weight I am able to swing much faster and ease ... however that also cause me to have other problems too ..

      Thanks Klein. Yes it does feel lighter and on the whole the weight seems more evenly distributed. I also think a big difference is that my Proliner have deep cavities while the Verity not so much. I've read that cavities are more forgiving and suitable for high handicappers, and blades are usually for better players, right? Would it be a mistake to consider getting blades even though I am a high handicapper, but it feels so much more right??

        Simon, forgiveness is a measure of distance lost on off-center hits. A more forgiving club still has plenty of distance when you miss the center. A less forgiving club will lose distance when you miss the center.

        Cavity backs by nature are more forgiving, yes - and hence better suited for, well, everybody.

          For whatever reason, I really liked the feel of those clubs much better. I thought it could be because they are blades instead of cavities. Or perhaps it could be due to other factors which I am not aware of. Are the D1s and D7s a standard measurement of swing weight? Does that only refer to the weight of the clubhead?

            Hi simon, I believe you are from singapore Anyway it is not that true that blades are only for lower Hcpers ... well but I can say is that blades are more suited for better ball strikers ... the reason why I say that is because I myself is not a single Hcper ... but I am using a blade myself and I love it... however, I do not want to go too much into details or else it might bring out the blade Vs cavities topics. One advice for you is the use your friend's set and go for a short game as see how you handle it... as the feeling on range and on green is totaly difference. For the weight, you can do a light search on the internet on the "swing weight" it does not only take into account on the club head weight but the whole weight of the club as a whole.

              Hi Klein yep I'm from Singapore, and I would sure love to have a discussion on blades vs cavities I have not been exposed much to golf equipment and technology as I'm quite a beginner, but it would sure be nice to learn from you guys who are more experienced. I'm still using my first set of clubs (Maruman), and would want to only dabble in other equipment when I've got my swing sorted out.. But those clubs of my friend's sure felt different and nice, and I'm now beginning to wonder if I should start looking at what else is out there

                Try not to commit yourself to an iron set first ... take your time and try various brand and types .... You can go to some range that have tons of demo clubs for you to hit and not commit yourself... The best is to walk around testing sets without any money in your pocket, or else you might fall into buying the 1st few set that you tested after some sales talk..... Different brands, types feels different even if they are from the same brand.... you can try to go bishan range and have a try on some demo clubs....

                  Hey a fellow Singaporean?! Guess what, I do go down to the Bishan range quite regularly. Haven't had the chance to try the clubs there yet though because I always felt my swing is not there yet and it doesn't really help for me to try new equipment :P But you are right, I should just go and try some of the irons perhaps and just get a feel of the different brands and models

                    Go try all you want .. but just try to avoid the sale talk ... it will really make your butt real inchy .. that is what happen to me .. and in the end... I am in the buying and selling craze

                      Thanks Klein. No worries, I am sure I won't be changing any clubs until I've gotten my swing fixed. And from there, I might just consider getting them custom fitted, if it's not going to cost much more than getting a set of Ping or Titleist say. I am dying to get one of those huge (360cc?!) drivers, but I know I can't get one now as my swing is not proper yet

                        well you can just go get a cheap big head driver and swing and "wack". There is how I slowly learn how to handle a driver .. however, it might not be the correct way to learn.... anyway personally I feel that until you are producing a stable swing path, address point, grip and etc then you go for a custom fit or else few month down the road, you might need to change again.... however that is just my views... .. Btw the biggest driver I saw in the market now is 525CC head ...

                          Hey Klein what's your handicap? Maybe I can steal a few pointers from you at Bishan one of these days?

                          I am indeed looking at getting a driver, but only when I feel ready with my swing too.. Eager to see what new technology and all the 'big heads' can do to my driver shot

                            Haha my HCP ? .. too high to tell anyone ... anyway my long game sucks big time ... get the hint? ..

                            well i used to be using drivers of 380CC ... until I had gotten used to my 460CC driver .. i had never turned back eversince.... well my advice is try to avoid picking up advice at range for quick fix ... .. for me I try to read up from books and learn from there instead of learning from people who are just as bad as me ...

                            anyway the book I am reading now is "Tiger Woods how I play Golf" ... it is more like my guide book now ..
