They're clones, so they look awfully similar. There's much talk about how nowadays the knockoffs perform just as well as the original, but even if the claim holds true, I personally won't buy a knockoff. I'd rather buy a quality component design, and know for sure that somebody put some thought into the design, rather than just ripping off a look.

My brother in laws' first set was a set of Adams Idea clones from Pinemeadow.

You can use them, for sure, and they worked alright for him. I just personally don't support clones, as I don't believe they can truly compete with a good set of components.

As for clubs assembled in China... I just don't know. First things first, I always recommend a clubfitter/clubmaker over buying off the rack. Next, pretty much all clubs are manufactured in China, but the assembly often happens in the States.

thanks lowpost42 for the advice. in india we do get all types of golf equipment but one can never be sure whether they are clones or not. would have to get it frm the US through a friend.

anyways, which driver do you reccommend for me. i can touch 230-240 with a 3 wood, if that can be of some help. regards

i have a driver and iron set from pinemeadow, very good clubs

i have a nike ignite clone, hits very good, good distance, good quality built

i have callaway x16 clones, they hit sweet, good distance and forgivness


for 250 for driver and irons plus their satisfaction garantee, warranty and good customer support pinemeadow is very good

these are pretty much component heads

Clone is synonymous with 'lookalike' or 'strongly resembles'.

Can you spot the similarities? Awful close, to me.

Well, after reading much about the whole adjustable weights thing, I'd have to say in the TM drivers, it's largely psychological. I believe GTO member Ian Hancock tried one, and said it didn't make a difference. I've heard stories of guys 'magically' going from a slice to a gentle draw.

IMO, from all my research (short of actually hitting one), there's not enough weight being moved around to significantly influence the shape of your shot. What they may be good for is the equivalent to an aesthetically pleasing substitute for lead tape. In other words, you may be able to adjust the weights to a point where you're making better contact with the ball. This in turn may give you a more desired ball flight. But don't think for a second it's because of your weight setup that the driver has solved your problem. I could solve the problem with your current driver and lead tape in this instance.

Now, all that said, confidence in ones' clubs cannot be discounted. Often in life, and in golf especially (once your fundamentals are sound), you do what you think. So if you think you can, you do. And if you think you can't, you're right.

Lead tape is, as it's name implies, metal tape. I believe it's also called aircraft tape. People who install ductwork use it to seal off ducts (and not duct tape, ironically).

Anyway, it's shiny metallic looking stuff, and it's used to fine tune weight distribution on clubs. It's something like every 2" strip of half-inch lead tape weighs about gram and every 4" is 1 swingweight point. I've seen 1" of 3/4" wide called 1g, and 4.5" of 1/2" wide called 2g... so go figure.

And again there are some that say it's simply psychological.

I like to start with sticky tape or packing tape (clear) and some 1/4" washers. The 1/4" washer is ~ the equivalent to one swing weight point. I start with 3 washers stacked, and tape them to the back of the clubhead (as I don't believe anyone can truly feel a 1 swingweight (2g) change). Oddly enough, it seems to influence how well the ball is struck - but like I've said, it's only a small change. It's like the positioning rockets on a Space Shuttle. Great for little adjustments, but useless if you want to do a big move.

Howdy, I've been playing Pinemeadow clubs for over a year now. As a beginner I chose what I considered to be reasonably priced, and from my own research reasonable quality clubs. Not only have I purchased additional clubs from them in the last year, but have no doubt that a Pinemeadow upgrade for my next set would be a good choice. I chose the Adams clones first, with a tour 600TI driver and secret weapon 5 wood. Later I got the bug for a Taylor made clone and purchased the system Q driver and 3 wood. My game has improved in my estimation a great deal. From 120 in the beginning to fairly consistant mid 80's in 14 months. I had not totally eliminated the slice, so purchased a used offset impex driver with a steel shaft. I'm driving the ball straight and far. For me any way260-290. The offset is a temporary fix of course but I'm working on it. Their shipping has been quick, I snapped a shaft on my 5 wood and they sent me a new one w/ 3day turn around. I fully understand the argument against clones. The R&D, and so called production short-cuts. As a beginner at the time I made the choice to gather all the necessary equipment that I could afford. You guys know how expensive that can be. Any way the clubs enabled a guy like me to begin with a sound set without going broke, and I've had tremendous success. All other issues being what they are you cannot go wrong with them. thanks...Jim
