I noticed in the net that re-gripping a club is possible. Is it a good idea? I have a cheap set of clubs. (I think it costed about the same as new grips would be:-)
My middle finger can reach my palm near thumb very easily. So my current grips might also be a little thin. I might need a 0.58 or 0.60 grip. I don't know the current size, but I will visit a proshop next week and check some clubs.
I noticed that a 13 grip kit is about 50 dollars plus shipping. So maybe it would be a good thing to change the grips from my clubs.
Your middle and ring finger should touch the palm near the thumb, but not dig in. Make sure you're not putting a death grip on the club. Hold the club as lightly as you'd hold a childs' hand, then check where your fingers are.
I made the mistake when I first started golfing of putting a death grip on the club, so I had my clubs regripped with 6 layers of buildup tape. Once I got my grip down, my grips were (obviously) way oversize.
Thank for the warning. I checked and looks like my grip might not be too thin. Or just one layer of tape would be enough. (I need to test the feeling with clubs and check the thingness of there grips.)
Is the material of a new grip very subjective or is there some good grips that I can't pick wrong? (As a first aid I will wash my old grips today:-)
Yes, grips are very subjective. A popular grip are the Tour Velvets from Golf Pride. Your best bet would be to get to a shop where they have a gripping display.
There you can use it to find out which grip size feels most comfortable, and you might be able to hold different types of grips to see what you'd like.
I think you'll be surprised what a little soap-and-water with a firm bristle brush will do for your grips (the ones with the wire brush for iron faces and nylon for grips will work just fine)
Yes, it was Tour Velvet grip kit that I found from Internet. I washed my current grips and tomorrow I will go to our "range". It's -20 C at the moment so we have to hit balls inside. (It has been down to - 35, but then it's too cold in the "bubble".)
I can test some clubs at the range and see if I find a comfortable grip.
