  • Ashton?

If I recall right, there were a few on here using the Ashton brand? I'm looking into the X-1D to replace my old 5 wood and finally try a hybrid with the X-Brid to drop the 4 iron. Anyone using either of these and what's your thought's on them?
    Thx...

    Re: Ashton?

You can't go wrong with a fairway wood with a .830 COR face, IMO.

I personally like the taller face of the X1-D 3 wood.

As for the XBrid, I'd probably like if if I didn't already have Innovex Hybrids. The XBrid is smaller (both heel to toe, face to skirt, and face height), so it doesn't set up as 'confidently' as I'd like - but as far as being able to adjust lie, it's tops.

I havn't made up my mind on the hybrid just yet. Might be waiting for the new Wishon's coming out soon. They also will have the .830 cor.

          Re: Ashton?

I prefer the thinner face of the X-1 FWs - very easy to hit off tight lies. I can consistantly get the X-1 3W out about 270 yrds with a few even creeping around the 300 yard marker. I have had a few people try my X-1 and say it's the nicest feeling 3 wood they have ever hit.

I am putting my order for a X-1 5W in this week, ans the 5W and 7W for my neighbor.

I built my boss a X-brid 22* to replace his 3-4 irons and it turns out he is hitting longer than his 5 wood.

            Yes sir.

Thx for the info gord. Think it's gonna be a tough call on the hybrid.

Any shaft suggestions that were working well with the Ashtons? I really want to try the UST V2 or maybe the new Harrison Impulse fairway shaft..

              Re: Ashton?

I use the Harrison Striper Titanium in all my clubs. I am thinking switching to the Penley Stealth 70, but it has more to do with the proximity of suppliers than the shaft. My neighbor also gets his built with Harrison Striper Titaniums. My boss has a Harrison Tour Classic II shaft in his hybrid.

I suggest using the same shafts in all your woods so that you can expect similar results. If you have replaced your driver shaft or you built your driver and you really enjoy that shaft, it's in your best interest to match your shafts to that brand. If you are still looking for a shaft to compliment your swing, try different shafts in all, then once you find the shaft that best suits your swing, match all your woods and hybrids to that.

Hey Gord - if you want Aggresive shafts, let me know.

Also, FWIW, I've got the Wishon Shaft Profiling software, Happy_Hacker.

If you'd like me to find shafts with similar bend profiles, just ask.

                      Re: Ashton?

In most of the reviews I've found online the X1-D seems like it's better off the tee and the X-1 is better off the ground lies.

Low, how do you like the nRage shaft? I might give you a shout on the shaft profiler.

                      Thx for the info guy's...

                        Re: Ashton?

I find the nRAGE is really, really smoooooooooooth. I don't know how they pre-load the nano tubes, but it's a nice feeling shaft.

I've found a nice combo (78g nRAGE with a Wishon 515 head) that I'm all over the middle of the face with.

I found the X-1 extremely easy to hit off the tee. I suggest teeing the ball as low as you can - about the same as you would for an iron shot. Anything higher than the 1/2 the face dramtically increases your chances of skying the ball because of the very thin face.

Hope I have that luck. Just got my 515 ( 3 wood ) last week with an Accuflex FH. Just waiting on the weather to break now...

Gord, have you hit the X1-D? Just wondered what in the difference you didn't like.I'm gonna order one of them ( either X1 or D for a 5 wood ) this week. Just a little concerned on the X1 being a little shallow. It'll probally won't be used much on the tee box and like I said most reviews I read said that most prefered the X1 of the turf.

Gonna go with the Pro Launch as the Accuflex FH in my Wishon 515 ( 3 wood ) is a great shaft but, I was at my fitters today and did some tesing on the launch moniter with it and although she had the carry towards the 240 mark ( good for my 95 mph swing ) I was a couple of degrees low with it, but I'm sure the extra yards of run won't hurt.
