Get a good quality leather shoe with a gortex liner and use waterproof wax polish on them. They will last and look great.

Here is a good example: http://www.ecco.com/gb/en/collection...0709/detail.do

Brian. Thanks for that link. I notice that they have a store in Kensington High St., which I can get to quite easily.

I'll call in there some time in the next couple of weeks and have a look at their range of shoes.

      Thanks again.

Thats exactly what I did last year, went out and spent a bit more on the ecco (but still less than dryjoys etc) and they survuved the irish winter/summer perfectly.

        Highly recommend them.

If they survived the Irish Winter/Summer, they must be good

Re: Golf shoes - what do you wear?

I was in Central London, last Saturday. Unfortunately the Ecco store didn't have my size (big feet). I remembered there is a golf sale shop not far away.

I called in there, lo and behold, they had a whole range of Ecco shoes. Found a pair which fitted me perfectly and managed to get the price knocked down from £130 to £100. I wore them for a couple of rounds this week. They're comfortable and seem to be very well made. I'm not sure pink is my colour though (only joking)

Footjoy didn't bother to answer, or even acknowledge, my email of complaint (3 weeks since I sent it). I, certainly, would never buy any of thier products again.

Re: Golf shoes - what do you wear?

This is an old post resurrected, but I may be able to help people who have the problem I have.

I require extra wide footwear. My feet look like those swimming/diving foot fins from above. All my life, I had problems with dress shoes, work shoes, skates, ski boots, and of course golf shoes. The regular M width footwear, I could not even get the front part of my foot in. Single W's were all that were available in retail stores, and I would suffer in those.

The blessing was when companies like New Balance came out with double, triple and upward width fittings for sports sneakers and some dress /casual shoes. I take a triple or quad wide shoe.

This was still no help re golf shoes, which only came in W, until I stumbled on Callaway's line of EWT golf shoes. EWT means extra wide technology, and the shoes are engineered to be more roomy and comfortable. With the New Balance and Callaway experience, I found out that the W designations are not all that determines if the shoes will fit a wide foot. I could not fit into some triple wides, because the lasts were not also constructed wider as well.

Anyways, I fit into a single W Callaway shoe with EWT, and from day one they have been great. They also are well built and look good. I could not believe I could wear a single W anything.

I hope they give you good service Alan. keep them well waxed and polished and they should last and keep out the wet.

Re: Golf shoes - what do you wear?

Hi started with a pair of Footjoys then Callaways but they didn't fit my wide size 13 foot.. Even the Footjoy wide made my little toe go numb. I switched to a set Adidas University awe those were comfortable and waterproof. I wore those two season and I decided to just recently treat myself to a pair of Adidas Tour 360s pricey yes but hands down the most comfortable and best looking shoe I have ever owned...

I've always worn Foot Joys out of habit, but even after all these years, I still miss steel spikes. They were infinitely better in providing stability.
The new spikes (actually not very new now) are only marginally better than tennis shoes in my opinion.

                        I wear these.

I'm on my third pair, and have found them discounted at $20 on travels to the states. Talk about bang for the buck shoes.

                        Comfy like sneakers.

Good deal, Mox. If I could get them at that price, I'd be happy.

I wear only Ecco shoes. I have had 3 pairs in the last 8 years. The tend to last 2 or 3 seasons. They have great styles and colors.

Hi all, I have tried various styles of shoe and have now settled for stutert's. I find them very comfortable although many of my friends say that they feel heavy. As for spikes/cleats, I am thinking of trying the pro stingers. I would be interested in your opinions on them as only one of my friends uses them and he likes them. thanks,

                                Hi Beast,

The Stingers are very good for grip and fairly good for wear. They are well made and the materials are very rugged.

They tend to be difficult to clean, because they "grab" and hold all kinds of debris. The stuff will not come off easily, unless it's a wet day with only wet grass and leaves in which case you can lift the debris off with a tee. If it's matted thatch, the shoe cleaning brushes does not get it off, and you have to really get into the job with something sharp.
