    What Putter ?

    How do you go about selecting a new putter?

    What features should I be looking for ? Should I only stick with the 'big name' brands ?

    The putter I have currently have is a wilson pro-staff which was given to me free of charge by the shop where I purchased a set of new irons. The putter seems OK but I have nothing to compare it against as I have never tried/used anything else since I started playing golf about 16 months ago.

    There is a world of difference between a basic-level putter and the modern putting machines of today.

    But 95% of putting is confidence, so go find at putter that makes you feel good!

      I prefer a blade style putter. I would love a Scotty Cameron Napa. A Circle T Napa, 33 inches/350 gram with GripMaster Leather Redwood Stitch Back grip would be ideal. I also like the Scotty Cameron Studio Design/Circa 62 style as well. Again, I am a blade person so the Studio Design #2 or Circa 62 #1 fits the bill. I love the Oil Can finish. I have a Circa 62 #1 that is being refinished in Oil Can as we speak. I also have a Cleveland Designed by Ben Crenshaw also being refinished in Oil Can (chrome had to be stripped off first). I am trying to get a Studio Design #2 that will be finished in, what else, Oil Can.

        There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Wilson ProStaff putter and as long as you like it, use it. Then again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Cameron or Bettinardi and other high-end putters either. It's all about how that putter make you feel, not it's price. If it also help syou holeputts, all the better!

        The only way to fnd the best putter for you is to go into a store that has a nice selection and an indoor green. Pick out some putters that you like the look of and try them out. Spend some time with each, hitting a variety of long and short putts. Don't try to make the putts, just notice how the putter feels when you swing it, how the ball bounces of the head, what type of sound it makes etc. After a few putters, you will have a pretty good picture of the type that feels good to you and it is a lot easier making a good decision.

        Don't be fooled by price either: many times a really cheap and cheasy putter can turn out to be the best feeling and best performing putter you've ever had.

          scotty cameron seen to be the one's that has taken over from ping, but ping still had most wins on any tour of any make of putter, ever time a player wins with a ping putter on tour ping make 2 gold putter and one goes to player and other into there valt, it had to be extended as the have so many wins, the best putter if the one you feel happy with.

            There couldn't be a more true statement than that Peter. I have a Knight putter that cost around $15. I've tried a few of the high end putters and I still like the feel of my cheapy better. As with anything else, it's not the price that counts, it's how it performs for you.

              if $ not became a issue i will recomend you to buy a decent putter new tecnologie are amazing!!
              i was a whatever club is good (dead wrong) new putter are more forgiving than you can imagine,wich help you with half of the task ahead of you, now odyssey two ball or odyseey three ball are my choice you may try but remember got to fell good in your hand and not in mine so go to the store and try as many as you can not only few putt but many on top got to be fitted (many of us buy e-store or standard size ...no good, wrong
              no two persons are alike no swing are alike)

                if you have not tried a broomhandled putter then try one, there are a few players that said they should be banned because the make putting so easy. i know my game has changed lots since i got one. look at sam torrance and bernard langer, were both in the 100s in the putting lists and changed and both ended up in the top 10.

                  What ever putter you decide on, have it fitted to your stroke. Economical, or expensive, either one will perfrorm quite well for you if fitted properly to your stroke. I have read that a properly fitted putter will save a 10 handicapper between 2, and 4 strokes a round, if they are using a non fitted off the rack model, and switch to a fitted model.

                  After a proper fitting, the trick then becomes finding a ball that feels good to putt with, which will compliment your putter, and your stroke. GJS

                    The putter is all about the feel. Putting is down to confidence so you need a putter that makes you confident. The weight of the putter matters to me because I needed a putter that I know would get the ball to the hole because I used to leave my putts short.

                    I bough the Odyssey 2 ball putter and had two 4 gram wights put into the shaft. This has basically given me confidence in my putter and that helps to make putts.

                    If you feel confident with the putter you have then dont change it. If your not then go try some out like people have already mentioned.
