  • Custom-fitting

Hey, I am 13(turned it in March) and about 6'0" - 6'1". I play middle school tournaments and my coach says that my clubs look to short for me . Is that the reason I either hit it fat or I top the ball ? I have a standard $270 set. Should I get good custom-fitted clubs for my hieght or should I just make swing adjustments?

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Re: Custom-fitting

Hi there - it sure is possible that the clubs are too short. You're quite tall for a 13 year old and at over 6" custom fitting is very important for both lie and length.

Improper clubs can certainly cause your inconsistent ball striking, but it could be a poor setup, inconsistent swinging, dipping or lifting... Clubs will aggrevate it.

I don't know what clubs you have but I have seen that budget clubs are not spec'd to industry standards, so I guess it's possible that the clubs are shorter than expected.

For the money you're going to spend get fitted and at the same time visit a good pro and get them to look at your swing!

      Re: Custom-fitting

Custom fitting definatley helps alot. I asked a pro at the driving range about the length of my driver and it was bigger then standard ( I'm only 5'4") so it was way to big. So i had it cut down and it made all the difference in the world

Can you buy i set of clubs and then go get them fitted? or would it cost less just to get them fitted at the same time you buy them?

A lot of club makers will throw in club fitting for free if you buy the clubs from them. Otherwise you'll probably pay $50 to $100 for the fitting.

              Re: Custom-fitting

Most reputable retailers are club fitters, I say "most" because some aren't. I would suggest you find an approved club fitter for whatever manufacturer you prefer. Callaway, Ping, Titleist, Cobra, Mizuno, Dynacraft etc. they all have approved fitters and you can normally find them on a "locator" search on their website.

Normally if you buy the clubs from them, the club fitting is free.

You can also contact some retailers near you and enquire about their fitting service or you can look on Golfsmith's website, I'm sure they have a locator search as well.

                  hi
just to add, if you buy a second hand set of pings here in uk, ping will change the lie for free only have to pay the postage, all pings are coded so you know the lie your buying. also grips are coded and you know if shafts are extened or shortened too buy the code. not sure if other makers do this also.
