  • Driver help please. I am stuck for choice.

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has any advice on these drivers. I really want the Callaway FT-3 but I have never tried one as they dont stock them by mine. Are they really as good as all the hype?

I was also looking at the Mizuno MX500 as I really liked that when I had a smash earlier in the year.

What is the best driver out of them 2 and the TM 425?

How good are the shafts in them and will they have been pured with being off the shelf?

    Thanks in advance.

    hi
your best bet is to go and try loads of diffrent drivers and get it down to a couple that feel good and get the distance you want. then have them fitted, ie have the lie of them set and check the flight on a sim, also find out the spin rate.
then you should have the best driver to fit you, dont have to be a brand name i'm sure lowpost will give you some ideas as to a driver made for you. fitted is always better than off the shelf no matter what the make.

      Phil,

Virtually any off the rack club will NOT have it's shaft aligned properly. Sure, you can get lucky, and find one that's been installed properly, but it's completely random chance.

I've got a post in another thread around here showing a TaylorMade MAS shaft, marked stiff, showing weaker than a Ladies flex on the deflection board. Hilarious!

Thanks Lowpost. As helpful as always.

Do you know anything about Snake Eyes Driver heads then? I can get pretty much any pured shaft for them because I know a golfsmith clubmaker but I dont know how the heads compare to the top drivers on the market. Any SE recommendations?

You probably can't go wrong with any head, really.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Compressor, and while I don't put much stock in adjustable weight screws (yet), those head (Like the 650) seem to be very popular.

you answered your own ? you know a golfsmith clubmaker, ask him if he knows you swing he can build you a snake eyes club that ll out perform any of the others, ask any club maker about snake eyes they make great components, your starting to see lots more of them on tour, and its not because there paying them big money to do it either.

That's a trick question: the answer is a Cobra 460 SZ!

Several years ago Verplank did, I believe he was their last paid player. I have seen adds claiming that several PRO's play their wedges but have never seen any names.

My guess is that most pro's go with one of the bigger name brands (If they are not recieving money to endorse) because even if there is no diference in quality, those brands have a tour van at each event, can custom fit/tweak the clubs each week and are free. My guess is that you would have to go out of your way to get the Snake Eye clubs.

I played the R7 TP with Fuji 757 Speeder (stiff) for about a year. I was not hitting it well and was very streaky with it.

A guy showed up at the range with two drivers in his bag...a Rapture and an FT-3. He was hitting the Rapture. I asked him if he was doing a Phil (Mickleson...2 drivers) and he laughed. Said he picked up the FT-3 Tour about a week before and couldn't hit it. He told me I could hit it and I fell in love with it. I've had it about 2 months now and still love it. I avg. around 260-270 with it and occasionally hit a 300 (counting roll).

It is the Tour version.... It has .5 degree open face (not a problem for me), neutral bias, NVS 65 shaft. I was afraid of an NVS because I was hitting the Fuji too high for my liking. It's not an issue though. I really love this driver.
