After the last discussions I bought The Secret off Ebay. Unfortunately both my local driving ranges are out of action due to storm damage so I have not been able to practise with it. Out of interest I took it to the course yesterday to try it on pitching to the green. As if by magic I put in some great pitches (for me that is). So what I was wondering was.... If I get on with this thing OK, would it be legal for me to use it in a competition?

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Re: Legallity of The Secret
Just playing devils advocate, Jim Thorpe wraps his left wrist, Raymond Floyd, Tiger and several other use white tape on their fingers. I wonder why they never get called on these as aids. I always wondered about this type stuff, never heard a good answer, or even why they do it. Anybody know.

Re: Legallity of The Secret
hi
Trevino use to tape up his right thumb over his glove between the two knuckles and fill that part of his thumb with tape.

Re: Legallity of The Secret
Well, that's ironic because it was Trevino who suggested to Guy Whatisname that putting spit on the face of his driver was illegal! Pot kettle black?

Re: Legallity of The Secret
hi bulldog
if you start out with tape on your glove then thats ok, but you cant add tape during a round, adding spit is taken as adding to the club and is an infringement under the rules.
i remember sandy Lyle playing and the lead tape came off his one iron and he fished the tape out his golf bag and stuck it back on the club, Nick Faldo saw him and reported it when in the scores tent after the game and sandy was disqualified for adding weight to his club. i think Sandy felt that Nick should off said to him when it happened as he would off if it had happened the other way round, don't think they ever spoke again after that. but thats the rules.

Re: Legallity of The Secret
Well, I guess it's one of those picky things that rules committees have to consider but to me, adding tape to a glove is one thing, but taping something together or over or whatever is a false aid to improve swing, a la 'The Secret'? I guess it depends on the intent...

Re: Legallity of The Secret
Rule 14-3, decision 14-3/8 (adhesive tape), decision 14-3/10 (training device or aid).
It appears that wearing the special glove is in breach of rule 14-3 while applying adhesive tape, depending on the intent, is permitted. The other situation where the lead tape detached from the clubhead during the round is another matter. Rule 4-1 and applicable decisions would apply here. For instance, lead tape that was applied before the round that detached during the round in the normal course of play may be replaced without penalty.
Penalty for breach of either rule 14-3 or 4-1 is disqualification.
