  • Where to get custom fit

Im getting new clubs and am still v open minded about what I want (Im a 4 handicap and have played with the same set of Ping eye 2's, grips and shafts since I was 13 (12 years!) Im looking at the New Taylormade TP's (Ive tried the oldRAC TP's and liked them) and the new Mizuno mp67's as options to start with but not set on anything

My question is - where is the best place to go - the local pro? (at a good golf club), a well known American Golf retailist? Over the internet (surely not if I want them custom fit?

Which of these is likely to provide the best service and can anyone recommend any where in Scotland for me?

For once I can say money isnt an issue (its amazing what your gf will buy you for your birthday if you propose two weeks before it and then hint that the money you had saved for clubs had gone on a ring!!!!)

Try the range at the Braids, mate. Thats where I got fitted for my 60's.

They have decent bays and the guys are pretty knowledgable.

Failing that, the golf show is on at the end of March at Ingliston, they will have launch monitors and everything there as well as the latest gear.

Did they give you a full session or was it a case of just measuring you up and sending you on your way. (They also dont have the clubs I want at the moment but will keep going back) and was it the guys in the shop or the range pros who fitted you - it seems both can do it

Im keeping the pings but after 12 years of abuse (Ive used them since I started playing golf hacking round the fields at the back of my house) they are scratched, dented, the grooves are pretty much smooth in the 8 and 6 iron and I just I'd go for something new and shiny!

They give you a pretty full session, they put the marking tapes on the face and sole of the club (usually the 6 iron) to make sure your lie angle and ball strike pattern is correct. You usually get to hit plenty of shots, but I suppose it depends on the exact details of what you are getting fitted for, the more different sets you are trying the more balls you will probably need to hit.

If you are going for Mizunos then the delivery time wont be too long if you want something different from standard. One tip is to skip the standard fit V50 grips cos they are absolutely stinking. The best no extra charge option is the full corded Golf Prides but I think there's a surcharge on the Decade Multi Compounds, which are the best and what I got fitted after I bought mines.

          Cheers.
