To the best of my recall, the Eye 2 Plus is simply an Eye 2 made after April 1990 when Karsten started putting a little + sign on the back of the club.

Unsure if it actually makes any discernable difference in playability.

    More than likely doesn't.

If you like, head off to PING : Play Your Best I'm reasonably sure you'll find something under the Irons, classics section that will tell you for sure.

Doesn't Lee Westwood still play Eye 2's...???

    IMO, Good clubs...

    Cheers

      hi
the ping eye2 + was the new square grove clubs at was aproved after the r&a and pga banned the ping eye2 groves as being to close together, the now legal ones have a + or a dot on them and have a diffrent spacing to the groves but still have that square grove and not the V grove of the older ping eye.
up till a months or so ago Lee Westwood was using ping zings 2 but i heard he had changed to ping S58 for his win the other week, he use to use ping eye2 wedges but i think he uses ping tour now, still trying to find out if he did change for good or just a trial of the clubs. he also used a putter that was made for calcaveccha but calcaveaccha did not like it and lee found it in the ping trailer at agusta.

Many thanks to you both. But, does that mean my old Ping Eye 2's are illegal then?

Radiused "U" groove models manufactured from Fall 1985 to March, 1990, identified by U.S. PAT. D276644 and 4.512.577 in cavity.

These are what mine are as I found out from the site. Are they legal?

            hi
the modified and plus models of the ping eye 2 can be used in tournments but not the modles before 1990 as the groves are to close, the "U" or square grove in the modles before 1990 have the ends open more than the groves in the modles after 1990. i use a ping eye 2 one iron that is a 1995 modle and i have to take it out my bag when playing in monthly medal as its illegal.
only the + and the modified modles are now legal.
sorry to give you the bad news.
brian do you play in many tournments if not then it wont matter. ask the pro at your club or check with ping to make sure before you change them.
            best of luck

That's my Ping Eye 2 1 iron out of the bag.

At least I won plenty of tournaments with it

Well I do not play all that many competitions but the club pro just sold me this set a month ago so I hope they are ok.

                    hi brian
go back to pro and check with him, if like me most games are with your friends then it wont matter, with me i play for the fun of the game not the winning plus i am getting on in years so dont win that many lol.
you will find the ping eye 2 a great club and were one off the best selling golf clubs ever, and at one time a lot of pros used them or used the wedges or one iron, its a very forgiving club and does get the ball up in the air. i'm sure you will find that they will help your game, i found out that i never blamed the clubs thinking they were the best and all bad shot were my swing. i still think like that 20 years on.
your clubs are old but still one of the best clubs ever made and still can give you years of good use.

When on form with my swing, the Ping Eye 2 1 iron is superb. I have hit some great shots with its. Probably my most memorable was one into the green from about 230 yards on par 4 after a wayward drive. I was on the wrong fairway, having to go in between two bunkers to the centre of the green, trees to negotiate, plus a "valley of sin" to negotiate. Hit it bang into the centre of the green. I am not sure if I landed it directly on the green, as I cannot see that far, but there was a pitch mark on the line of flight about eight feet before the ball. That was my "Hogan's Alley"- good job not in a tournament though.

Replaced the 1 iron though recently with an MD Golf Blackhawk hybrid 18 degree, which is a fine club and was a steal at £27 (inc p&p) on ebay.
