  • Cleveland Launcher 460

    Hi,

I have been playing the last 2 seasons with a Cleveland Launcher 460 with 9.5 Degree of Loft with NV65 Stiff Shaft.

My drives tend to ballon on me with decent carry but no roll. Recently I have been delofting my driver to fight the slight offset and lower my ball flight but that does not always work.

I took my driver in to my local fitter, thinking that it was a shaft problem but he indicated that it was a problem with the head, particular the loft.

He preceded to measure the loft and it came out to be 12 degree instead of the 9.5 written on the club.

I love the explosiveness of the head but is this customary for most manufactuers to incorrectly spec out lofts on their drivers?

It's not customary (as that term infers an intentional motive), but there are tolerances to which all golf equpment is subject to. Generally speaking for heads, it's +/-3g for weight, and +/-2° for loft and lie.

This is one reason why going to a good custom clubmaker is important - on spec gear. You could be ballooning due to all that loft.

      Thanks for your reply.

Might be common knowledge to everyone else on this forum, but is there a reason why manufactuers cannot ensure that a 500$ driver adheres to the spec loft?

I have used the driver for the last two years and I love the hotness and sound of the driver.

Do you think a shaft change will remedy this problem?

I would contact Cleveland and see if they would not remedy the problem.

That is off quite a bit, I could see within a degree or so but 2.5!!!

You could try a shaft with a high to mid bend point, might help some.
