    Illegal Callaway driver 1-1-08

    I have a Callaway driver"Great Big Bertha 11+".On the back of the head it has a warning sign,, Meets R&A ,COR RULE untill,,1-1-08,,USGA non conforming (present date ).
    My question is will it be illegal for amateurs to use in competitions?

    Yes, it will be illegal in competitions as it will be 'too hot faced'. There will be no difference between it and, say, the Wishon 0.90 OL (with a .900 COR).

    Feel free to use it in your regular foursome, however.

      most clubs don't in-force a lot of the club changes for there normal competitions as they feel there is no real advantage to the armature golfer. my last club had one guy playing ping eye2 that had the illegal square groves but allowed him to play and no one thought he was in any way cheating and i don't remember him ever wining, talk to your club and see what they say.
      if you wanted to play in a county or national competition then i think that would be different.
      most clubs use common sense.

        Thanks for the replys,very useful.I do hit it well and will hate to replace it.The regular group I play with know about it,we will have to see if they whinge, when and if I beat them.

          Hi. I'm in the same position with my TaylorMade R320. Haven't told my playing mates yet, specially as my partner and I thrashed them 7 up on the 13th. this morning.
          I must say it's good to know that it's ok to use these clubs in casual play. Cheers.

            sometimes it feels like innovation has stopped so in order to drive the market USGA changes the rules and then manufacturers ACCIDENTLY produce too hot models.... The actual advantages are pretty hard to see, from my point of view.

              I was wondering about that - if it was hype - or if non-conforming clubs offer a real advantage? I suppose a line has to be drawn in the sand at some point for the sake of uniformity.

                Wishon created the .90 OL so that golfers could see for themselves whether a 'very hot' driver helped.

                Across the board, people reported some distance increase.

                However, I think you have to have remarkable swing speed and quality contact to take advantage of a super hot driver.

                  my friend has a K1 speed driver and it illegal from 1-1-08, she took it back to jjb sports and they changed it for £30, she tried out the new driver and could not find any difference to the first one.
                  only difference is the old one had K1 on the face and this one has K1L
