How to line a putter

    How to line a putter

    I was wondering if anyone has a good reccomendation on how to add a line to the top of a 2 ball putter? I bought the unlined version, but after adding some black tape to the top to make a line I decided I like that version better. The problem is that the tape tends to come off pretty regularly. Is there a better method?

    I can't believe I am saying this because I can't stand the "lined" version, but ...

    You could probably use a carpenter's square and a Sharpie.

        That is Paula Creamer, aka the Pink Panther - my favourite LPGA'er.

        As for the putter, use a permanent marker and make sure the line is square. Otherwise, you'll set yourself up for pushed or pulled putts. (However, if you constantly push or pull, you may want to skew your line some to accomodate for it.)

          Nice tip.

          If you use a wavy line, then if you pushed the last one then you can set up with one of the pull sections of the line and wammo all fixed.

            My tongue and my cheek are sometimes inseperable!

            I wonder, though, honestly, if you couldn't use some sort of asterisk type line system to figure out your putting style - then 'erase' 2 of the 3 lines to get yourself with the line that works best for you?

              I will add NO comments to this topic, since I destroyed my two-ball putter trying the same idea!


              Actually - I will add ONE comment, and that is ...

              DON'T EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO ERASE ANY MISTAKES!!!

              The texture of the white discs (and the white hot insert too) will NOT clean up again when you try to wipe the sharpie off.

                To start with I got one of the black adhesive backed letters at a hardware store similar to used on a mailbox. I used a straight edge and a razor blade to trim to the correct width. I applied it to the putter using a carpenters square and liked the results, but I have to reapply every 3-4 weeks because the adhesive just doesn't stick very well to the grainy texture on top of the putter balls.

                I've been leary of the Sharpie since I knew there would not be any mulligans if I used it.

                  You could use the adhesive, cut the strip WIDER than you want, then cut the middle out and fill with Sharpie.

                  (Plus the adhesive tape makes the putter illegal for tournament play)

                    I used a Sharpie and a straight edge on my Odyssey 2 ball putter and I'm happy with the results.
