Last Spring I had the pro shop install new grips on all my clubs, I chose the Lamkin half cord. I found that as the weather became warmer this particular grip had little tackiness if any. Although I cleaned my grips after each round I was not comfortable with my choice. I am having the grips replaced but have not decided on which type or brand. I'm looking for a grip that provides good comfort plus a high degree of tackiness, any suggestions would be appreciated. Also what is the general rule of thumb when it comes to the correct size. Thanks.

Funky Golf Grips (the bright coloured ones) are about as tacky as you get, but last only 6 months. So if you don't mind spending £100 on grips every 6 months, go with them (they're good in the rain too).
Next is the half 'n' half golf pride ones. Soft at the bottom and normal at the top. Not worth the cash as they need to be replaced almost as often as the Funky Golf Grips.
I changed from Funky ones to standard golf pride Tour Velvet. They're hard wearing and provide good connection to glove and hand. And at £50 for the set fitted it's not expensive. You can get away with a full season on these.
I understand (although pro's on here are welcome to correct me) that the correct grip size should see the middle finger of the top hand connect lightly with the base of the palm. Any more than that and it's too small and you'll get wristy, any discernable gap and it's too large preventing a good hinge.
That's how I measure it in shops, but there must be a more scientific way. This is golf, after all!!

Well my re-gripped clubs are back home with me, they appear to be sulking, the snow is pounding down so it's going to be a bit before they see any action. I chatted with the guy at the golf shop and I tried a number of grips, I did like the soft feel of the coloured Winn grips and had just about decided on them. The young man who was helping me suggested I hit a few balls with one of his clubs as he had just put new grips on. They felt great, soft and tacky, they were a Golf Pride " Player's Sofftie " grip, he told me that he could install these grips for less than half the price of the Winn grips. His attitude was that the Winn grips were " ridiculously overpriced " ( $ 12.15 each against $5.75 for the Golf Pride ). He checked my hand on the club for size, recommended a couple of wraps, suggested I go for a coffee and when I returned my clubs with the 13 new grips were ready to go, nice to have service like that, thanks for your input guys. buteman.Comment

Golf Pride - Tour Wrap are also an inexpensive, but very durable. Very good tackiness summer and winter, and even better when slightly wet. Can buy them just about everywhere that sells grips.Comment

I switched to the Lamkin Crossline (mid-size, white on black, non-cord) and they work fine for me in all weather conditions. I see the pro's play these more than any other. Hope this helps.Originally posted by buteman View Post

My vote is for the Golf Pride Tour Wrap also. I use these exclusively and they are always tacky. They are cheap and very durable. I get them at Golf Galaxy for $2.95 each.

The Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Control is awesome. It's a different take on 'tackyness', but it sure works!
