  • Rangefinder rule?

    What's up fellas,
I got a range finder for free today and I've been looking around at the rule and I'm a bit confused. I want to know if it's legal for highschool competition matches. Everything I keep finding is kind of iffy and I want to find a sure thing because I have a tournament on monday and I'm just wondering if any of you guys know the answer or not.

    Thanks.

    Re: Rangefinder rule?

Range finders are legal if they do not read slope or anything other than distance. This is all dependent on your local tourney rule. I think the USGA rule defers judgment to the local governing authority but the USGA allows them.

      hi
rule 14.3 says you are not allowed to use a device to measure distance in a stipulated round.
what that means is elite tournaments and at club level local rules apply and you can use then at most club matched if there rules allow, so check your local club rules.
      cheers

Apparently I had it a little backwards. I stand corrected. Thanks Bill.

            Re: Rangefinder rule?

There was talk of allowing them for purely distance calculations. It never came to fruition except to say that a local rule could allow them.
