Ferrules

I am attempting to re-shaft, re-grip and change the lie angles of my 30 year old blades. I am using Royal Precision Rifle graphite stiffs into my forged Orlimars. My question is should I use the same size ( length ferrule that are presently on my old steel shafts or can any heigth be used? Is there a rule of thumb for ferrule heigth versus the hosel length? thanks Frank
