  • Casual Water

I had a guy I played with yesterday tell me that the rules for playing or moving the ball around wet areas on the fairway had changed. It used to be that if you stood over your ball and you can see water rise around your shoes near the ball you could get a free drop.

He told me now you have to physically be able to see water around your ball to be entitled to a free drop. You are not able to stand around the ball to see if water rises whilst adjusting your stance. This didn't actually happen to anyone in the group but was just something he brought up.

Interested to hear if anyone else has heard about this change.

    Re: Casual Water

    The Rule has not changed.

Interference by an abnormal ground condition occurs when a ball lies in or touches the condition or when the condition interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing.

    Nor has the definition.

"Casual water" is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance.

        Why?

Casual water is not part of the Winter Rules section of Local Rules.
