  • Improving area of stance or swing

    Hi guys,

I am having some trouble understanding rule 13-2 & 13-3.

The situation I had today was I hit a shot into a long, thin branched bush(large). I found my ball well back in the bush on the left side. I had no access from the right side or behind the bush. I proceeded to back into the bush from the left side with the branches being pushed/bent from my back contact until I was able to form a bad stance(I am right handed by the way). I had no real ability to swing but I could chop at it and managed to advance the ball out a couple of metres.

I was told by 2 playing partners that I had broken this rule(13-2). Is this true? I have seen pros on TV moving branches with their back while assuming their stance so I assumed it was legal.

Also in rule 13-3 what does it mean by building a stance?

    Thanks

    Christopher

In addition, 'building a stance' would for example be placing something between your feet and the ground to elevate one or both feet. Or digging unneccessarily into the ground to equalise your stance.

Thanks mate, that has helped a lot. It is nice to know I didn't break the rules.
