  • playing wrong ball

during a doubles matchplay game A&B are on the green, C&D are also on green, it is player C to putt but as D's ball is in way he asks A to mark ball as D is tieing his lace. After he has played A replaces ball and D putts out. However they then find A had mistakenly placed his own ball there. What is the ruling in this situation

    Re: playing wrong ball

D gets a penalty of 2 strokes and must replace his ball.

There would be no penalty to A unless he did it deliberately.

Just don't mention this to Daly who blew up recently in Australia after being penalized for hitting the wrong ball...
