There is no rules against this as long as the tape is not over the striking surface (clubface). As for scratches lowering the resale value, it won't really affect the selling price a whole lot down the road, unless you really abuse them.

I always use a bit of tape on my driver shaft to save it from bag divider abuse. Its totally legal.

Scotch tape is best followed by insulating tape, dont use sellotape as it is a bit sticky and is hard to remove. On no account ever use the brown packing tape its nasty stuff.

just get a good bag and take care of your clubs.....dont tape the shaft.............im more worried about the face of my driver!!!
