  • Rules on the putting area?

    Hi All

I was practising at the putting area (10 holes) when 2 kids supervised by their father started to play each holes against each other. They were faster than me as I was hitting 3 balls per hole and trying to make it as hard for myself as possible. But they just happily started playing the hole while I was putting it and I had to stop until they left to carry on as they were in the way.
Is it ok for them to barge in like that? Is there rules on the putting area? I have been at times were it has been a lot busier and it never happened. We just go to the next available hole and carry on. Am I allowed to play several balls? My instructor told me I should do so to practise.

    Thank you

Yes what you were doing is perfectly acceptable.
Unless there is a club run putting competition then you can putt as many balls (within reason) to the same hole and stay there all day long.

Those kids should have received a slap on the head from their father, it doesnt sound like he was doing much supervising to me!

The practice area is like a public park.

Everyone can pretty much do as they please - including using it as intended, and/or causing trouble for others.

If you want to really mess with them, putt your ball so that it hits theirs (if they're putting to your hole, or across your line). This doesn't work so well if you're practicing 20 footers.

Although, as has been said, there are no rules for putting areas, they are intended to be a practice area. In order to make the practice worthwhile there is no point in only hitting one ball on each hole. You should be taking at least three (more if it is not crowded).
Competitions should not be played unless they are not interfering with other players practice.
There is no reason to play the holes in order if you are practicing and the area is busy.
In fact if you think about it, the only reason (except if there is a slope on the area) to move to another hole is to save time walking back to the start point for that hole when you have got all the balls in the hole. Just step across to the next.
