  • New To Golf

I am learning to play in order to spend time with my sons. They are teenagers, and I am 55, so I am finding that I cannot do some of the things they ask, like full 90 degree rotation, etc. I also wear progressive bifocals, so I can't figure out how to deal with that all the time in the setup and swing. Any help?

    Welcome to the community

Don't worry too much about making a full 90-deg turn, you should be fine with less as long as you make the turn and don't just swing your arms. If you really struggle then allow the heel of your lead leg to lift a little in the backswing, this will increase your turn, make sure you plant it back down again as the first move in your down swing.

I would agreee the 90 degree turn is not necessary. A short compact stroke which finds the center of the club can be just as effective. Spend a lot of time working on the chipping and putting. That can lower your scores in a hurry and also make you a good asset in father/son or other scramble formats. Figure your sons can get you off the tee and if you make some putts it should be a good time.

As to the bifocals anyway to get a 2nd pair of glasses for golf?

Thanks for the tips. I have accepted the fact that I will never out-drive an 18-year old flexible young man. So I will work on the short game, and I am saving for golf glasses. Thanks again!
