  • Shanking again

Hello Everyone, I have recently acquired a wonderful s- - - k from all downhill side hill lies with a half to three quarters swing. Help!! Can't believe I do this after 50 plus years of golf, but after reading some of the posted threads I guess I'm not alone in this boat. I am a fairly good golfer with an index around 5.0, but for the life of me I can't figure out what to do. HELP TIMES TWO

    Re: Shanking again

I vote crowding on the half to three quarter swing.

My method on these now is to have my arms fully relaxed as I address the ball - including once I've grounded the ball, I lift my spine a little with my arms relaxed to see if the club moves. If so, I readjust. I've been playing fine since starting this.

I like to align my shoulders with the hill, and swing level to the hill. Don't swing level to gravity and try to adjust the body, the contortion of the change in your swing will result in unexpected results.

The only way a shank happens is when the club is further away from the body at ipmact and I suspect the your weight is moving towards your toes to cause the problem. Try and curl your toes up in your shoes to keep you weight on your heels.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I played Wed the 18th of this month and luckily had no severe downhill and sidehill lies with a partial swing. I'll try all methods suggested and get back as soon as I chance upon one of those scary shots!

            Played Tuesday.

            First short shot - shank.

Double checked my 'relaxed address'... sure enough, I was crowding the ball.

For the rest of the round, did the double check - no shanks, in fact, got up and down 40% (quite an achievement for me!)
