  • Hello from new member who "lost it all"

    Hello to all

Just experienced something I thought was impossible. I am a 14 handicap and play about 3 times per week. Well, last week in a tourament I totally lost my game-and I mean totally. Just can't hit the ball. This went on for 4 days-prbably a thousand swings.

Just took a lesson and am "starting from scratch. If this didn't happen to me I would believe it !

    Just venting-thanks for listening

Was it due to the pressure of the tournament, or at any specific point of the game? I must say that there are periods when I'm on top of my game and hitting the ball well, and so I figure the tournament should be a breeze. I go into it relaxed. I likely forget some key elements which resulted in my up to then solid ball striking, and a few shots start to be OK, but not pure as my expectations demand. So I start to search and make adjustment, this is when everything gets mixed up, and pretty soon I'm afraid to take the club back, and to make a fundamental solid swing. As you say, the next resort is starting over from scratch. I've gone to the range after and did just that.

The things which usually messed me up were the takeaway, improper wrist cock, full turn of the shoulders versus thinking they are but instead lifting the club with the arms.

    Good luck, I've been there.

Thanks Ted. Your last couple sentences are sooooooooooo right. I've been hitting for 2 days and still feel "afraid" to hit the ball. Plan to focus on takeaway, shoulder turn and grip. I think I am "picking" the club instead od swinging. Time will tell
