I am a first time poster, and a senior golfer playing off 8.But I've only played one competition round in 15 months, and I am too scared to show on the course due to a lack of confidence. How do you fix that ??
I'm a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling wouldn't help me. They'd have to put me in prison, and then I'd talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play. ~Lee Trevino
What is the fear? Is it that you will not live up to your 8? If this is it, this is a normal thing for players to want to hold onto their lower handicap for the sake of pride. Place a lot of trust in your abailities. Also remember that scoring above the 8 is not always going to cause the handicap to increase...there are slope and course ratings that adjust the number that is factored.
If it is a problem where you just simply play a different game during competitions, then the only way around this is to play in more of them. Practicing under harsher conditions will also prepare you for comps. Look here where I talk about this very thing: http://mysite.verizon.net/gregjwillis/Competition.htm
