  • senior shaft

I have played golf for over 40 years, at some stages quite well. For about 35 years my handicap was between 4-7. I am now 75 and struggling. It seems I have lost too much distance, even for my age. I am experimenting with senoir shafts, hoping to get some help in distance. Any suggestions as to high quality senior shafts to give me some extra distance?

My second question who is Count Yogi? I recently read a book of his. Anyone tried his method?

All the big name manufacturers' senior shafts should do. I don't think it's that critical. What you feel would be different from others.

Are you getting the clubs fitted and made for you? If so, you have a selection. Here is GolfSmith's website, which will give you some info to research. There is a selection guide and you can research the specs of specific shafts.

I've buiit a Driver with a Prolite 35 A flex shaft, which is a good quality shaft. I'm 69, so I'm also looking forward, in terms of equipment to grow into. I've also played around with a 13.5 degree loft head in another club I made. I've always believed that equipment could give an edge. Here's the info on the shaft.

If you are buying off the rack clubs from a golf store, the stock shafts for each brand will be one of the many big names, like Cobra with Mitsibishi REAX etc. I believe I researched, because I was looking to replace a Callaway club, and found that the stock shafts were by Grafalloy with Callaway's name painted on, but that was many years ago. You can test drive the clubs and the respective shafts in the store's simulator booths, and get an idea of how they feel and feedback re distance, ball speed, launch angles etc., plus if you are lucky the advice of a knowledgable attendant.
