I have just started carrying a lob wedge with 64 degrees of loft. I used for a couple of sand shots in my recent round, when faced with a shot requiring a very short carry to the pin. Both times I left the first shot in the sand, then scrambled the next shot to a couple of feet.
I tried Stan Utley's bunker shot technique for a while last year, as I liked his emphasis on getting the flange of the club hitting the sand first. But I was teaching myself from his book, and did'nt have someone to pose questions to. My local pro talked me out of it and showed me a traditional method. Try as I might, I can't say I walk into bunkers with a clear idea about what I need to do.
Is anyone of the forum members using this bunker method?
