  • Hello everyone

Just wanted to say hi an introduce myself. My name is Maurice and I reside in frigid New Jersey. I really hate this time of year because winter golf, even though it's better than no golf, is not as good as warm weather golf. I have been playing this game for about 5 years and what can I say - it was love at first swing! I hope to learn a lot here and will start with a question:

can anyone recommend a practice routine? I usually go to the range and just hit whatever clubs I feel like hitting? A weekly planned schedule would be nice.

Hi Maurice, and welcome to the forum.

I suppose it depends on what you need to fix or improve upon. There may be specific drills you want to concentrate on for specific days, if not for the whole time, interspersed during your general workout. You may bring props to aid your drills on those days.

As for a general practice routine.

I always start with the 8 iron (not too lofted and not too long a club). I hit a lot of smooth shots with that, working on tempo. I then move to SW's and hit some pitches to different short pins, dialing in the swings to suit the distances and heights. I move up the scale to the longer clubs, every so often switching back to a PW, so I remind myself to swing all the clubs with the same tempo as the PW.

I mix up my shots, so I am hitting at different flags and directions. I also like to ease the boredom of just hitting balls by hitting draws and fades, low and high.

    Ted
