  • New Guy needs help

I am having massive problems with my drive off the tee. I get heaps of distance but on most occasions the ball heads straight for a while then makes like a corkscrew to the left. Do I need to correct my grip in relation to the openess of the club face or is it a swing thing?
I have noticed that my long irons are also starting to do this but not as severely.

    Hi gus,

If the ball is truly starting straightt, you would be #3 on this list of laws. Otherwise, check the other laws.

If #3, the club face is closed at impact, for some reason.

As you say, it may be the grip being overly strong. You could play around with making it more neutral, and see if that helps. I play with an extremely strong grip, but I have my swing tailored around it, or visa versa.

You may be manipulating the club so the face closes. Perhaps your right hand grip does not match the left hand grip (strong left hand, but the right hand weak and "on top" of the shaft), so going to impact the club head gets manipulated, because the hands are fighting each other. The right elbow may be running away from the side of the hip, and although you are able to maintain a square path, the running elbow could close the face.

You should be able to figure it out.
