    titleist ap2 rifle shaft 6.0 or s300

    hi,
    Really need some advice pls. New Member to this.
    was using the Mizuno mx25s loved them. they had s300 shafts. im a big bloke 6ft 3. 1 inch longer. 2up. 150 yds with 8 iron.
    Fancied something smaller looking brought new set of Titleist AP2 so better work ability. handicap coming down etc. now off 13.
    went for the Rifle shafts 6.0 0.75 longer for better control. 2 up .
    But am not getting on with them. only hitting 6 iron 160 yrds now. very inconsistant ball flight some thin etc.
    My Q. is should i try 5.5 shafts or ping i10 irons? not sure what to do any advice would be great.

    if you go for the ping I10 then not only will you have the option of the new AWT (advanced weight technology) shafts but also you will have the option of going for the Wrx shafts. that is the choice of the popular after market shafts.
    and you will be fitted for the shaft that best suits your game.
    that way you will know what shaft will suit you best with the I10 heads.
    check that the ping stockist you go to has clubs made with not just the ping ATW shaft but a choice of after market shafts or have them make up one in say a 5 iron for you to try first.

      Steve, go back to the 1" over. The thin miss is from the shorter irons as you're coming out of the shot.

      The S300's are slightly heavier than the rifles as well.

        Hi thanks for your reply. does any one know if the awt shafts are similar weight to s300s? as this would be better i think?
        and of similar stiffness.

          the ping AWT shafts will vary in weight. the longer shafts are lighter than the shafts in the short irons and there put together so the lighter heads in the long iron are matched with a lighter shaft to give the same swing weight as the heavier head in say a 9 iron and the matching heaver shaft.
          in the reg/flex its about 99g for the 5 iron and lighter for the 3 iron and heavier for the 7 iron. with the I10 heads the weight of the heads can be adjusted with ease (by ping) so swing weight matching is ease for the ranges of irons and they have a swing weight of D0 through to the 9 iron and the wedges are s/weight of D2.
          the rifle 6.0 are in the 105 to 133g range so the shafts in the Ping should feel lighter. i think the ping 9 iron is about 108g shaft weight and in the 3 iron its 95g.
          the ping extra stiff shafts are about 117g so there getting close to the rifle 0.6 weight. lowpost knows more about shafts than i do so maybe he will be able to give you more help.
