A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: New to GTO - Need Help
It's completely counter-intuitive, but hit the inside quarter of the ball when you swing. I'm willing to wager you're squaring the face up well enough, but that your swing path is completely wrong.

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
Something else you may also want to try that has helped me in the past is to try to take the club back on a more flatter or shallow plane. When I practice swing I try to make sure the shaft or the club is level with my shoulder line back and through to finish. try practice swinging like this a few times before you hit the ball, and this goes for all clubs. The longer the club the shallower the plane. Also, like lowpost 42 posted hit the inside back of the ball, this will promote a in to out swing, but make sure you turn you hands over our you will never square the face and end up with a push.

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
Thanks for the tips. Today I tried a few things that seemed to help. 1 loosen my grip 2. took a shorter back swing and did not reach a 90 degree bend in my right arm. I hit straighter but not very far with a 3 wood. I will try hitting the inside corner next time.
Any other tips or videos you all feel are helpful please pass them along.

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
hi
next time you out on the course find a flat bunker and go in it with say a 5 iron, put a T-peg in the sand and line up and play the T-peg like you would the ball. play it as a normal shot and not a sand shot. when you play your shot step back and look at your foot prints in the sand and see how your lining up, then look at the mark made by the club. it will probably show that your swinging from out to in and the start of the mark will be with the heel of the club and end with the toe leaning a mark.
if that is the case try and keep your right elbow close to your right hip in the downswing.
cheers

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
hi Baglgolfer
i use to pratice playing in bunkers as i was never very good out of sand and it just came to me that i could see my stance and the line the club face took through the sand.
to stop having to walk to far when checking my swing with say a 5 iron i used a T-peg, works for your driver too.
i have done that for years and it has help me find my faults.
also if you can find a big pile of sand that they refill the bunkers with. standing and swinging into it help your swing and and its like the tyre drill but with sand and the sand gives a bit more than a car tyre and it also gives you a clean sandblasted look to the faces if using your wedges for about 20 swings.
cheers

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
Again, thanks to all. I am very excited to get so many good pointers. I am very eager to try this out. I am sure you all may hear from me soon with more questions because once I try the sand idea I may have more questions on how to diagnose my swing.
Again, I am new to the game and very wet behind the ears so forgive me.

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
hi Nathanm
one thing! when swinging with the driver, DON'T TRY AND HIT THE BALL TO HARD... he biggest problem i see with new golfers is that they try and knock the skin off the ball. the harder you swing the more problems in you swing show up.
try swing at about 80% when playing your driver and see if you start getting better results. with pratice you can speed up the swing to about 90% but still have some control.
swinging at 90% you tend to get a better strike than swinging at 100% and the difference in distances is only a few yards.
best of luck.

Re: New to GTO - Need Help
Very good advice, Bill.
You only have to look at a 110 pound lady golfer, who hits the ball farther and straighter than a 250 pound footballer, with a smooth, well sequenced, pure contact swing. Brute force does not allow the sequencing and the shaft to do its thing.

hi Ted
i never tire of watching the lady golfers. watching Lorena Ochoa hit her drives and she has such a smooth swing and everything is so well times. its poetry. most of the top lady golfers seemed to have better swings than the top men in my eyes.
