  • Re-Shaft Ping Rapture

I am looking at several used sets of Ping Rapture Irons. When I buy I intend to re-shaft them using Aldila NV 85 Comp shafts. Do I understand that Ping uses different weight medallions (weight ports) for steel shafts than on graphite shafts or is this just a myth.

    Re: Re-Shaft Ping Rapture

    hi
it depends on what shaft you have in the Rapture iron. diffrent shafts different weigh on the port and also on the toe weight. the club head weigh is adjusted to the shaft and not the other way round.
and yes there are diffrent weights on the graphite shafts to the iron shafts
the back weight ports are not on sale and you can only have then fitted by Ping and having them changes also means a fitting session to ensure clubs are matched to your swing.
why not buy them with the Aldila NV85 hybrid shaft already fitted.
not only will you have the shaft of your choice but also be fitted and have the swing weight adjusted by ping.
also with the new ATW shafts each shaft has a diffrent weight, lighter shafts in the long irons and heaver shafts in the short irons and all irons have a swing weight of D0 up to the wedges.
if you buy Rapture irons with the ATW shafts it will be almost imposable to get them to match the Aldila shafts. it you are going to change shafts miss any Rapture with ATW shafts.
    cheers

Thanks Bill ... just bought a set of Raptures with WRX Project X shaft. Will see how these work for a while before considering re-shafting. May have a new set of Aldila NV 85 Comp iron shafts for sale, 3-PW.

        Re: Re-Shaft Ping Rapture

        hi Bill
i think it could be tricky weight matching pings when you don't have access to the back tuning ports like Ping have.
maybe Lowpost or Ted may know more about refitting new shafts to pings than i do.
        best of luck.

          Re: Re-Shaft Ping Rapture

Like you said earlier Bill, if you're looking at a shaft swap, order them with the alternate shaft initially with Ping, and definitely have them do it after market. Don't just take it to a regular club maker.

budman will likely be happy with the Project X.

            hi
it may be an idea to give Ping a ring and get them to give you a price for fitting the shafts of your choice.
i once snapped the steel shaft on my sand wedge and took it to a local club fitter that has a good name. he said I'd be better getting Ping to do it and he offered to send it back for me. it took 10 days but only cost me only £15 and that was to cover postage.
that was about 10 years ago.
just to add i think the Rapture irons are the most advanced iron ever made and take a lot of the driver innovation and applied it to irons.
one last ting. look for the Ping demo day near you and take your clubs and shaft and go chat to the guy in the demo trailer. there are normal a couple of top (PING) fitter and they may fit your shafts for free. if you take your clubs they will check your clubs and adjust them for free. Ie change the lie and refit you to your clubs.
            cheers
            Bill

Thanks for the advice. I am definitely going to work with the Project X shafts and anticipate I will be happy with them.
