Has anyone a tip on improving distance in my iron shots?

    Re: longer iron shots

    Hi Pauleggy,

There may be other factors in your swing, which affect your iron distance, however, this is possibly one of the major ones.

    Look at this video.

The hands have to lead the club head to impact. Do not scoop. The loft of the club will create the lift.

There is an additional drill you could use. Place a head cover about 5" behind the ball position, so it is lengthwise perpendicular to the target line. This will cause a more descending blow and also encourage the hands to lead.

Replace your three longest irons with two hybrids. If you go and try a bunch of hybrids you'll find two you like a lot better than your long irons.

Now, you can add an extra club. Add a wedge to fill in a short distance gap. You'll hit just as many or more greens with your two hybrids as you do with your three long irons. Your new wedge will allow you to pick up strokes around the greens.

I bought the Tour Striker training club and it really helped me to hit down at the ball with my irons. It`s quite strange really but my favourite club in the bag in my Mizuno 2 iron - I very seldom mis-hit it. I struggle a bit more with my mid irons.
